TujijengeAfrika
was founded in 2006 by six microfinance experts who were committed
to bring a new level of professionalism to the industry. Our
six founders have a profound understanding of microfinance
in Africa and understand the need for more sustainable development
initiatives. TujijengeAfrica started its first microfinance
institution, TujijengeTanzania(TTZ), in July of 2006. Tanzania
was chosen as the first country of action because of its close
proximity to the TujijengeAfrika head office as well as the
overall staff familiarity and market demand of the area. The
six founders put up their own startup capital for TujijengeTanzania,
taking a new direction in funding MFIs in Africa.
:-
Present Status
Tujijenge
Afrika now has two MFIs operating in Tanzania,
TujijengeTanzania (TTZ) and TujijengeMicrofinance
Ltd (TMF). TTZ is close to becoming a microfinance
company regulated by The Bank of Tanzania and
is growing at a healthy pace. TMF was acquired
from SEF in June of 2008 and has made large strides
in becoming a strong MFI both in rural and urban
areas. Both TMF and TTZ each have two branches.
They differ in services that are offered and areas
targeted. As of January 1st 2010 the total portfolio
is TZS 3.08 billion, with 13,260 clients.
This
year, Tujijenge Afrika plans to open 5 branches
for TTZ as well as start another MFI in Uganda.
Tujijenge Afrika is also experimenting with environmentally
conscious programs that will be introduced to
its clients and staff
